Sometimes the effect of losing your dignity is the greatest teacher. Overcoming the shock can be traumatic at first.

Hi Lindsea,
I am a middle school student and I have just entered the blogging world. I am still very intrigued and confused about blogging. I think that blogging is a portal to a lot of different emotions. I think that most of my friend and classmates aren’t really sure about blogging as well. Can you give me some advice about blogging in general. Thank You.

Wow Lindsea, you are true inspiration. Your perspective and idealism is so wonderfully expressed in your writing. I, as a teacher of 21 years, continue to be amazed at the contributions on this blog. You will continue to grow and build dignity as life moves you forward. Dignity is built in time and continues to grow even when you get to be my age. You are an amazing writer. Continue to write and be passionate about your life and learning. You have such ability and insight. I enjoy reading your posts. Thanks for your contributions to the blogosphere. They do matter to people who enjoy reading and listening to student voices.

Not sure if anybody else saw the irony in writing (partially) about Oedipus and then finishing with: "The confidence in the rock-hard foundation of our self dignity GIVES US THE EYES to see the world clearly and be truly fit for life and learning." :p

Good post, though. I think the story of Oedipus works well as an analogy, but I reckon different people would also be able to come up with different comparisons.

Part of the charm and beauty of life is that it is a never ending search for meaning. We are all life long learners, sorry for the cliche and jargon.

I am always amazed when adolescents think that by some magic power they will someday figure it all out. Newsflash...ain't gonna happen.

you nailed it when you said, "I’ve built my online identity on something that’s transitive and changing. I don’t really think I’ll ever stop changing who I am, and that makes for a wobbly and unfounded online identity. It’s founded on something that will never stop moving, something that’s nonlinear and confusing to all but me."

Don't get me wrong! This sense of constant self discovery is what learning is all about. The older you get the more risks you are allowed to take.

Great post.

Hey John

I'm glad you liked it! It's strange to think that Oedipus and high school students have such a similar journey, but for me it's been true. What do you think of Oedipus? Do you like it?

Thanks!
Lindsea

Hi Lindsea,
I completely agree with what u said about high schoolers trying 2 find themselves. I am a fellow high school student and I've noticed that a lot of other students have changed throughout the past few years. I am also reading Oedipus in my English class as well. I think your analogy between Oedipus and students is dead on. Or at least for most of the students I know. Even though Oedipus realizes something tragic about his life he is better off knowing the real truth rather than living a lie.
Thanks for writing a good post!
